ANZ have been long-time sponsors of the New Zealand Olympics and Paralympics teams. After a challenging year for everyday New Zealanders and athletes alike, we wanted to support the team in a way that transcended a financial contribution and ad campaign.
In a year where athletes couldn't have the usual level of fan presence and support, we developed a piece of wearable technology that connected Kiwi fans with athletes.
Called the ANZ Support Band, the wearable device uses Bluetooth technology to bring athletes and fans within touching distance despite closed borders, social distancing and athlete bubbles. Every ‘tap’ from a fan is received by the athletes in Tokyo, where they feel a tap of support.
